Remover of Obstacles

The Ganesha is the “remover of obstacles” and a reminder we are all powerful enough to remove any obstacles that come our way and succeed in creating the life we desire. Ganesha also represents the new beginnings that will follow once removed. As your coach, my mission is to empower you to remove the obstacles preventing you from living the life you dream of.

“Don’t settle for what you have, create what you want!” – Christina Cortese

Life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself! -George Bernard Shaw

WHAT IS PARENT COACHING AND IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?

First, I assure you that seeking a parent coach does not mean you are not parenting well already. It’s the opposite! You are doing the best you can with the tools and resources that have worked for you, but perhaps it’s time for a new perspective. Coaching allows you the time and guidance to turn what is already working and carry it over into other areas of your life.

Ask yourself these questions:

Do you feel you repeat the same strategies, but see no change in your child?

Are you looking for more balance between work, home, and self-care?

Are you struggling with how to manage your child’s behaviors?

Are you overwhelmed and exhausted with your daily routine?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, parent coaching is right for you!

Next question: Are you ready to make some changes and create the life you imagine?

Change is scary, no doubt! Where do you begin? What is it you really want to change anyway? Parent coaching provides you the opportunity to take the time to figure it all out…with a little help from a friend of course (That’s me!)

As a PCI Certified Parent Coach® I bring over 20 years of experience working in various settings with families and children. I grew up in New Jersey where I facilitated in-home family counseling sessions, counseled students in both elementary and high school settings and provided community support to both parents and children ages 0-22 years.  In 2008, I left the east coast and made my way to California, where I became a behavioral supervisor for an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program, and provided parent training and support for families of children who were diagnosed with Autism. I worked closely with families to create individualized plans that would best support both children and parents.

Currently, I provide social-emotional support to students in general and special education from kindergarten through 5th grade, as a school counselor. I am surrounded by children in my personal and work life. My love for children has inspired me to become a parent coach. I pride myself on supporting parents, by providing the individualized support needed to assure everyone’s needs are being met within the family.

TESTIMONIALS

What my client's are saying

About a year ago, I reached my breaking point and needed to find a new approach for my son. His anxiety was getting worse, his aggression was coming back, and we were constantly butting heads. This is when I found Christina Cortese. I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, as we live in Minnesota and Christina lives in California, but at my wits end, I decided to give it a try. Christina made it super easy to establish a schedule to accommodate my schedule, as a full-time working, single parent. Christina is knowledgeable and her love for helping kids and parents really shows. After the coaching session, she would recap and offer suggestions when I needed them. Christina would check in between sessions to ensure I was working on the material with my son. One activity she suggested, that I loved, was a vision board. It was so fun to sit down with my son and have him detail his vision for his future. And it was really helpful for me to think about what my dream for the future is for me and my son. Christina is a professional and easy to talk to. If you need some coaching for your child(ren) or in need of parent coaching advice, Christina is your go-to.

I was struggling with my oldest daughter, 9 years old. We had been arguing every morning before school over her hair, her outfit, what I packed for lunch, etc… I ran late for work almost daily. She was arguing more with her little sister and never seemed happy, no matter what I said or did. I was super stressed and overwhelmed. I didn’t know what to do, but since parent coaching was virtual, I could do it from home without worrying about the kid’s schedule or finding a sitter. Christina had me focus on my own self-care, which I had been neglecting. She helped me find ways to incorporate self-care daily, without feeling guilty. After a few weeks of coaching, I noticed some subtle changes. I realized that once I started feeling more relaxed, I was able to address my interactions with my kids differently, and even learned how to make self-care part of my family time. Little by little I was able to find ways to interact with my daughter in a more positive way. It really hit me coaching worked when I realized that instead of arguing before work, my daughter gave me a hug and said, “I love you Mommy.”

Christina’s support has been instrumental. She has helped my family and me implement various behavior strategies with both of our children. She created behavior strategies/charts for our oldest son, which provided positive reinforcement. These strategies yielded great results and our son improved his behaviors. After I had my second child, I was having difficulty with balancing caring for my own needs in addition to the needs of my children. Christina helped me see that I could take care of my needs as well as be there for my children, allow myself to relinquish control, and let my husband carry out some of the childcare needs as well. She helped me find balance
